What is CBD?2024-03-25T14:59:49-05:00
  • CBD (cannabidiol) is one of over 60 active chemical compounds (or ‘cannabinoids’) in the marijuana/hemp (cannabis sativa or indica) plant.
  • It comprises about 40% of the active phytochemicals in cannabis.

HOW DOES CBD WORK?2024-03-30T16:31:19-05:00
  • CBD functions by binding to cannabinoid receptors in the body’s endocannabinoid system. These receptors have been found in virtually every cell and tissue type in the human body (hence the seemingly endless array of CBD uses).
  • The main receptors are found in the brain, liver, kidneys, and digestive system.
What’s the difference between CBD and THC?2024-03-30T16:26:08-05:00
  • THC affects the brain by binding to naturally-occurring CB-1 receptors in the central nervous system. It accounts for feeling ‘stoned’ or ‘high.’
  • CBD is a differently-shaped molecule that binds to CB-2 receptors in cell and body tissues outside the central nervous system. It does NOT make you stoned or high. In fact, CBD is antagonistic to the marijuana high; it actually prevents THC molecules from binding to the brain’s receptors (hence the reason why it’s often used to subdue the ‘paranoia’ or ‘speedy’ effects of super-potent THC strains).
WHAT ARE CBD OILS and CBD TINCTURES?2024-03-30T16:27:42-05:00
  • CBD oil is extracted from the hemp plant by various solvent methods. It’s commonly made from the seeds and stems of the hemp plant.
  • CBD tinctures use ethanol (alcohol) to extract the full spectrum of plant phytochemicals from the plant.
  • The strongest CBD extractions are made with whole plant extractions, including flowers or buds, and include potent and beneficial terpenes.
  • Here in the Cloud Forest we use organically grown, ethanol extracted WHOLE PLANT CBD from Colorado.
  • CBD is extracted from using solvents which can include hexane, butane, CO2, or ethanol.
  • CO2 and ethanol extractions are the best methods to extract CBD isolate, as they leave practically zero traces of chemical contaminants in the end product. (And really—do you want to ingest hexane or butane??).
  • The result of both CO2 and ethanol processes is a white to slight off-white crystal powder that is soluble in oils (coconut or olive, for example) or can be dissolved in ethanol (such as Everclear). The slight differences in color depend on the percentage of terpenes(beneficial phytochemicals naturally occurring in the plant) that have been left.
  • Because Cloud Forest Botanicals’ CBD is whole plant extract, it contains many beneficial terpenes — such as myrcene, pinene, limonene and linaool.

Please refer to this website, https://www.projectcbd.org/guidance/conditions for a list of health conditions for which CBD has been found to be therapeutic and the research links that support these claims.

CBD may be the answer you have been looking for, without the accompanying side effects or addictive properties found in so many pharmaceuticals.

ARE THERE MEDICAL STUDIES ON CBD?2024-03-30T16:35:31-05:00
  • Thousands of scientific/medical peer-reviewed studies have been carried out specifically on CBD. We encourage you to do your own research.
  • Project CBD is a non-profit organization strictly dedicated to documenting the research progress on this incredible plant based therapeutic remedy.
HOW DO I TAKE CBD?2024-03-30T16:36:54-05:00
  • Most CBD medications are taken sublingually, that is, orally via oil or extract (tincture) drops that are placed under the tongue and held for 30 – 45 seconds before swallowing.
  • There is a 98% absorption rate with sublingual CBD tinctures because the CBD gets absorbed directly into the bloodstream. This allows for maximum absorption, as the active phytochemicals (CBD) are given a fast track into the blood stream, bypassing the gastric digestive process.
  • Alcohol based tinctures are more readily absorbed than oils.
  • Topical creams and ointments, nasal sprays, suppositories are also effective, as are smoking or vaping.
IS CBD NATURAL?2024-03-30T16:38:02-05:00
  • Yes, CBD is a 100% naturally-occurring phytochemical that comes directly from the cannabis plant. It is not synthetically made.
  • Big Pharma is racing to develop synthetic products so they can obtain the patents. (No one can patent plants or direct plant products). Preliminary results have been less than stellar. Why? Single molecule, lab synthesized plant substitutes lack the synergistic, entourage effect that whole plant products provide – as Nature intended.
WHAT ABOUT CBD TOPICALS? DO THEY WORK?2024-03-30T16:45:33-05:00

CBD topicals have shown they may be effective for skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema, as well as for localized muscle soreness and joint pain resulting from arthritis-induced inflammation or injury.

    • The only significant danger/side effect is in vaping CBD oils that were produced using a thinning agent, such as propylene glycol. When burned/vaped propylene glycol produces formaldehyde, which is a known carcinogen.
    • CBD oils produced by CO2 extraction are much safer and purer than oils that were produced with chemical solvents/thinning agents.
    • CBD tinctures extracted by ethanol are clean and safe.
    • Most research has concluded that CBD is safe, with no known side effects, though some users have reported drowsiness, lightheadedness, low blood pressure, mild headache, or dry mouth, especially with initial or high doses. If you experience any of these, simply reduce your dosage until you find the amount that does NOT produce the unwanted side effect.

Remember, millions of people all over the US (and the globe) are using CBD products safely every day to effectively manage symptoms that include pain, seizures, inflammation, digestive disorders, etc.

IS CBD LEGAL? Another tricky, it all depends, question…2024-03-30T16:47:53-05:00
  • In states where medical marijuana is legal, CBD products are legal. Restrictions may apply.
  • CBD, produced from hemp with less than 0.3% THC, has been legalized in all 50 states. Restrictions may apply. Consult your state’s laws.
  • Generally, CBD products (oil, tincture, vape, topical, etc.) are permissible to buy, sell, and ship in all 50 states.
  • In Panama, marijuana is illegal. BUT, Hemp products are legal.
  • US Federal law still classifies CBD as a Schedule 1 drug – right up there with crack and heroin – and denies that it has any medical use (even though pharmaceutical companies are racing to synthesize CBD and THC and the federal government holds patents for…well, this isn’t the place for that rant. Another time.). Attorney General Jeff Sessions notwithstanding, it is highly unlikely that the DEA is going to examine every online purchase by individuals of CBD products. However, like everything else surrounding CBD and medical marijuana, you, the individual, must hold responsibility for your choices.
  • States are racing to pass legalization laws and, eventually, the federal government will have to follow suit, just as it did during Prohibition.

All in all, the fact remains that millions of people buy and use CBD products every day of their lives. Many depend on it to maintain their health and quality of life.

  • Make sure the company you’re buying from is reputable and that the product was made from organically grown hemp with less than 0.3% THC content.
  • You can request a chemical analysis – reputable companies will provide you with a read out pertaining to their CBD product. If they won’t provide a certified photocopy, shop elsewhere.

Ashwagandha, known scientifically as Withania somnifera, is a prominent herb in Ayurveda, the traditional system of medicine in India. This ancient herb, often referred to as Indian ginseng, has been used for over 3,000 years to relieve stress, increase energy levels, and improve concentration. Ashwagandha is categorized as an adaptogen, meaning it can help the body manage stress. It does this by modulating the response to physical and emotional stressors, potentially reducing cortisol levels, which are known as the stress hormone.

Beyond its stress-reducing effects, ashwagandha offers several other health benefits. It may improve brain function, including memory, and is thought to have anti-cancer properties due to withaferin, a bioactive compound found in the herb. Ashwagandha is also linked to lower blood sugar levels and may have anti-inflammatory effects, which are beneficial for heart health. Additionally, it might increase muscle mass and strength in some people, making it a popular supplement among athletes and those looking to improve their physical performance. However, it’s essential to consult with a healthcare provider before incorporating it into your regimen, especially for those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain health conditions.

Turmeric, scientifically known as Curcuma longa, is a vibrant yellow-orange spice commonly used in cooking, particularly in Indian cuisine. Beyond its culinary uses, turmeric has been revered for its medicinal properties for centuries, particularly in Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine. The active compound in turmeric, curcumin, is responsible for many of its health benefits.

One of the most well-known benefits of turmeric is its potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which can help alleviate symptoms of various inflammatory conditions such as arthritis and may even play a role in reducing the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and cancer. Additionally, turmeric is believed to support digestive health by stimulating bile production and reducing symptoms of indigestion. Some research suggests that it may also improve cognitive function and mood due to its potential to increase levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein associated with brain health. Including turmeric in your diet or taking curcumin supplements may offer a range of health benefits, but consulting with a healthcare professional is advisable for personalized advice and appropriate dosage.

Turkey Tail, Reishi, Maitake, Shiitake, and Chaga Mushrooms2024-03-30T17:03:20-05:00

Turkey tail, reishi, maitake, shiitake, and chaga mushrooms are revered in traditional medicine across various cultures for their remarkable health benefits. Each of these fungi offers unique properties and potential health advantages.

Turkey Tail (Trametes versicolor) is easily recognizable by its colorful, fan-shaped, striped appearance, resembling a turkey’s tail. It’s primarily celebrated for its immune-boosting properties, due to the presence of polysaccharopeptide (PSP) and polysaccharide K (PSK), which can stimulate the immune system and are being researched for their potential in cancer therapy.

Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum), often called the “mushroom of immortality,” is a staple in Eastern medicine for promoting longevity and health. It’s known for its ability to enhance immune response, reduce stress, improve sleep, and lessen fatigue. Reishi’s adaptogenic qualities make it a popular choice for combating stress and fostering a sense of calm.

Maitake (Grifola frondosa), which translates to “dancing mushroom,” is renowned for its ability to regulate blood sugar and cholesterol levels. It also possesses immune-modulating properties, potentially supporting cancer treatment by protecting cells against DNA damage and inhibiting tumor growth.

Shiitake (Lentinula edodes) is not only a culinary delight but also packed with health-promoting compounds. It’s rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, supporting cardiovascular health by lowering bad cholesterol levels. Shiitake mushrooms also boost the immune system and promote skin health.

Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) grows primarily on birch trees in cold climates and looks more like a clump of dark, cracked bark than a mushroom. It’s packed with antioxidants and is hailed for its potential to support immune health, reduce inflammation, and lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels. Chaga is also being studied for its anticancer properties.

Incorporating these mushrooms into your diet or supplement regimen can offer a wide array of health benefits, from bolstering the immune system to supporting heart health and potentially even offering anti-cancer properties. However, it’s crucial to consult healthcare professionals before starting any new supplement, especially for individuals with specific health conditions or those taking other medications.
