In 2018 Ana was in a terrible car accident. She suffered brain injury and broken bones. Her road back to good health has not been easy. First, there was the pain. Excruciating, debilitating pain, everywhere. All the time. Then there were the horrific headaches and brain fog. The doctors prescribed opioids and physical therapy. She took the pills, did the exercises. She regained some mobility. Still…pain, even with the opioids, which left her even more fuzzy headed. And the brain fog? Well, the docs didn’t have much to offer there, and for the migraines, only more drugs. Then she found Cloud Forest Botanicals Hemp & Herb OM formula, a potent blend of turmeric and CBD.

Within a few days (of using OM), my post-traumatic symptoms and anxiety was gone!  This is huge because I struggled with these since a traumatic car accident early last year that caused traumatic brain injury/trauma. For the first time, I am able to enjoy deep, restorative sleep which is helping my brain heal. Another interesting phenomenon is that the hot flashes I’ve experienced since the crash have resolved!  In this case, I think the flashes were triggered by my overloaded sympathetic nervous system and with the hemp regulating the entire nervous system, it effectively restored homeostasis. Thank you so very much! Ana P.

So, what was it that made the difference for Ana?

We’ve all heard that Turmeric is good for your health–reduces inflammation, pain, alleviates depression, is anti-cancer, etc. Unless you’ve been under a rock, you’ve probably also heard or read about CBD–one of the primary non-psychoactive components of cannabis (marijuana or hemp) and how it is supposed to be good for EVERYTHING! In 2017 here the Cloud Forest, we started blending these two super plant components together: Turmeric and CBD.  Why did we do this? Read on!

Health is the harmonic relationship between human and nature, the balance between the organism and the environment. Health is predominant when there is balance or homeostasis (the natural state of the body’s well-being). Disease occurs when the body, the mind, and the environment are OUT of balance. Hippocrates, Ancient Greek physician - Stock Image - H408/0519 - Science Photo LibraryHealing happens when the body and mind are brought back into harmony. This was the founding premise of Hippocrates, the Father of Modern Medicine (a really LONG time ago).

Herbal remedies support health by accessing the power of nature to help the body normalize impaired physiological functions, restore immunity, promote detoxification and rejuvenation. The power of ancient plants is well documented by tradition, by real world anecdotal evidence, and by modern science. The benefits of herbs combined with CBD is an emerging powerhouse for health and well-being.

Fresh Turmeric Root, Packaging Type: BoxLet’s take a closer look at one of our favorite botanical friends: Turmeric, curcuma longa.

You have probably heard how turmeric is considered to be a super food, a super healer, a super star in the world of plant healing. Nowadays it seems to be everywhere: On the spice shelf. In the health food store as capsules. In coffee shops added to lattes. Mixed with dark chocolate. And, always, in the local curry shop.

In ancient medicine, turmeric was often used as a natural pain reliever. Today, followers of natural health alternatives have become ardent fans. Why? Because study after study shows that it WORKS.

Turmeric belongs to the same family as ginger and is packed with curcumin, a natural compound known for its antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties.

What are the benefits of turmeric?

Anti-inflammatory. Curcumin is believed to help block molecules in the body that can cause inflammation, which is characteristic of conditions like arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome, back pain, and other chronic conditions.

Antioxidant. Turmeric helps to fight the effects of free radicals in the body, thanks to the natural antioxidant properties it contains. Consuming turmeric or a supplement containing curcumin can help fight these problems, helping your body and mind maintain robust good health.

Anxiety and Depression. Curcumin has been shown to effectively treat anxiety and depression as it seems to boost serotonin and dopamine levels—the mood regulating hormones. Some research has suggested that it may be as effective as standard pharmaceutical anti-depressants, with few if any side effects. (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31423805/).

So, you maybe asking, Why is adding CBD to Turmeric a good thing? Looks like Turmeric is pretty amazing by itself. It is. But…and…What about CBD?

What is CBD?

CBD, full name: cannabidiol, is one of more than 100 naturally occurring compounds found in the cannabis (hemp or marijuana). CBD is usually extracted from the hemp plant and used to manufacture products such as isolates, dyes, edibles, and topical products. (If you are considering using CBD products, be certain yours is organic, is extracted with clean ethanol, and is free from contaminants, heavy metals, pesticides, etc. Ask for the chemical analysis report—COA.).Why Is CBD Everywhere

Since reaching the international spotlight a few years ago, CBD has rocketed to prominence in the health supplement industry. Initially, CBD was considered a passing trend, a fad like Pet Rocks. But, as more and more scientific research is completed by prestgious universities, medical researchers and scientists around the world, the medicinal and healing potential of this non-psychoactive component of the cannabis plant (no matter if it is marijuana or hemp) is becoming incontrovertible. More research still needs to be done to understand the ful effectiveness and potential of CBD, but the body of scientific and real world evidence is growing exponentially.

How does CBD work?

The body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) has three components that coordinate biological operations. These are the receptors, endocannabinoids, and enzymes. CBD is designed to boost the ECS to make it more efficient and sustain homeostasis (i.e natural balance—remember Hippocrates?).

There are two types of endocannabinoid receptors – CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are more commonly expressed in the central nervous system, while CB2 receptors are concentrated in the peripheral nervous system. Together, they ensure that the body can perform its internal operations smoothly. When CBD is administered, it stimulates and activates ECS receptors to function better within the body. https://www.health.com/condition/pain/what-is-cbd

When you ingest CBD it stimulates the production of endocannabinoids, which,in turn, can reduce the body’s levels of stress and anxiety. Conditions like these are complex and pharmaceutical companies have grown rich creating more and more neurological altering drugs to alleviate them. However, some of these drugs, with continued use, can potentially create more problems than they resolve (including dependence, addiction, impotence, suicidal ideation, and exacerbated symptoms). The use of CBD products is now considered by many alternative health practitioners, desperate patients, and a growing number of medical doctors as well, to be a safe, effective, non-addictive option. Research has found that CBD, thanks to its interactions with the endocannabinoid system, may help to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety and to moderate anxiety driven insomnia.

Can CBD help with Migraines?

People who experience migraines live in dread of the next onslaught of this debilitating pain. Some scientists and physicians believe there is no real cure for migraines and headaches, that even if a migraine is treated, it can continue to resurface at one point or another. However, there is emerging evidence that CBD can at least help relieve symptoms. A study by the European Academy of Neurology suggested that CBD may have some active biological combinations that may help to ameliorate the pain of migraines. How? When CBD enters the body, more amounts of endocannabinoids are produced. Because endocannabinoids contain anandamide, which is often used to fight migraines, CBD may provide relief. How can CBD help with Pain and inflammation?

CBD has been shown to act as an analgesic against pain and inflammation. Some of the painful conditions that CBD may help with include arthritis, multiple sclerosis, neuropathic pain, chronic inflammation, post-surgical pain. etc. European Journal of Pain reports that CBD applied to the skin may help lower pain and inflammation due to arthritis and neuropathy.
